Today we are talking all about what NOT to pack for college this year as a freshman in college. Do not be that person who overpacks clothes, decor for their dorm and just things that are not necessary--trust me!!! This video includes the top college freshman packing mistakes to avoid from dorm materials to school supplies. Before you close your suitcase come back to this video to make sure you know all the things not to pack for college. Comment down below what year of college you are in and what university you are attending!
Clothes
The first thing I have on this list is too many clothes. You're going to be in college for two semesters at a time, which means that you might be there for two different seasons. I recommend packing just for the first season you're going to be in. If you're going to be summer warm, then don't pack winter clothes. For Thanksgiving or winter break, you'll be going back home, and you will be able to swap out the items you have at that time. Also, don't accessories. I always find myself taking way too many purses to college. I usually wear a purse on the weekend when I'm running errands or hanging with friends. So, one or two key purses are enough to pack.
Books
The next thing I have on the list is a ton of physical books. I recommend getting an e-reader. I got an iPad to read my textbooks on, and it's a lifesaver. Physical books are very heavy, and they will take up a lot of space in your suitcase. But, an e-reader is compact, light-weight, and it can double as a mini-computer!
Extra Furniture
Depending on your specific dorm rules, you're not allowed to have certain things like air conditioners, mini-fridges, or microwaves. The dorms also come with furniture, so wait until you move in to see if you need to add anything else.
Supplies
Next, I have school supplies. I would wait until you meet your teacher and look at the syllabus on the first day and see what you need. Try not to buy unnecessary items that take up space. I have a college school supplies checklist, and that will be in the playlist for the back to college series.
Just Extra Stuff…
And the last thing that not to bring is are items you haven't used in a while. If you are looking at something and haven't used it in a year, maybe donate it. Just don't bring it to college because you aren't going to use it there either.
