Day in the Life VLOG: Interviewing for a $10,000 Small Business Grant
Hey guys, welcome to another day in the life vlog. I am so nervous today because I'm interviewing for a $10,000 business grant for my business Joiful Bee. That's going to be so fun and insane, so I need to prep for that. I also am going to be meeting with my assistant this afternoon like we do every Monday. I am an entrepreneur who runs two businesses for those of you that are new here, one being a haircare business and one being my business where I operate as a social media influencer. I also work nine to five at a tech company as an Associate Product Marketing Manager. If you're interested in seeing how I balance my love for beauty, life, and branding, make sure you subscribe to this channel and turn on the notification bell.
The first I'm going to do is my morning routine and show you my outfit. I got a new planner. As you know, last week, I showed you my to-do's on my whiteboard, and now I'm going to show you in my new planner. It's called the self journal, and it's super cool because it's a quarterly journal, has 13 weeks, and it's perfect for entrepreneurs. Shout out to Shopify for sending me this. I won one of their Women's History Month contests last year, but I just got the prize. In this journal, you can set your goals quarterly, monthly, weekly, and daily. So for today, Wednesday, my top three to-do's include respond to all these people, put in some orders in Shopify, and I have my grant interview. My grant interview is at 1:30, then meet with my assistant. If you're interested in trying out this planner with me, I'll link it down below. I'm going to fill mine out for the full quarter. I think there's an updated version, so the one you get might look slightly improved than the one I have.
This is my outfit today. It's just this cute top and these boring jeans because they're super comfortable to be sitting in all day. I'm going to be on ZOOM doing the interviews. Normally, if I were wearing this outfit out, I would have worn skinny jeans, but we're wearing comfy jeans. I'm wearing my hair out and some jewelry to make it look nice.
Now that my morning routine is out of the way, I like to get my business to-do's done before I have to move on to my full-time job. First, I need to go into the Joiful Bee customer service inbox and outstanding emails and reply to those messages. Then I need to look into my Calendly app, which is the app for scheduling. I need to set up some of the automation so when people scheduled time with me, it sends out automated emails and reminders leading up to their event. Afterward, I will start my full-time work.
I just finished up the inbox and those little things I needed to do. My goal is to hire a customer service person so that I don't have to be in the inbox talking with customers. I've been using contractor search websites like Fiverr, Up Work, and posting on social media to expand my team. That's how I found my digital media assistant. I posted on social media, people submit their resumes, then interviewed them. Hopefully, I can find someone this week. Next up, I have my first work meeting coming up, so I will do a little prep for that. I'm trying to get into a solid routine so that my work time and business time do not overlap.
Let me know if you have a side hustle or business you're working on in the comments.
Now, I'm about 10 minutes away before I have to hop into my grant meeting. I am a finalist for a $10,000 grant. They have a meeting scheduled for one hour, and I'm super nervous because I'm wondering what we're going to talk about. But I made a word document with notes that outline all the important aspects of my business. I hope Joiful Bee wins the grant. So let's get into this interview.
I finished up the grant interview, and I'm literally sweating. It ended up being 30 minutes instead of 1 hour. They asked me about my business, how I got started, how it plans to grow, the operations, and how I would use the grant money. I'm glad I did a little bit of prep before the interview to make sure I knew all of my numbers. I'm excited because they said I was in the top six out of 4,200 entries. That's absolutely insane. I didn't know they had that many entries, I'm super excited, and I hope to win because this girl needs cash money.
Now I'm getting ready for my meeting with Aralyn, my digital media assistant. So we always go off with slides for our meeting. After I prep slides, I have to give her some feedback on some of the stuff she worked on last week. Let me show you a little bit of what I do. I usually copy the slides from our last meeting. We go through a recap of the previous week and talk about what we're going to do in the upcoming week. Sometimes we'll have training where I have to train her on how to use different software. But for this week, I need to make a copy of the slides and then start working on the new slides for today's meeting.
Another thing that I do for our to keep us organized is I use the app called Monday. With monday.com, you can keep your team on task and see what things are getting done. To see all of the assignments, we have a weekly view where I plan out the things she has to get done. Mainly she's going to be working on finishing up May social posts. If you're interested in trying out Monday, I'll have a link down below. I think they might have a referral link. It even has a mobile app, so I can get notifications while she's working on different things. And it integrates with a lot of other tools like the Google Suite. I can't even explain how many features and integrations they have. We don't even use them all. I have a link down below if you work with a team or you need to keep yourself organized on what you need to get done.
I'm about to wrap it up for the day and some other stuff. Other than that, it was a really good day. I hope you guys enjoyed this vlog. Let me know if you like these days in the life vlogs in the comments. I'll talk to you guys later. Bye.
